About Aaron

My name is Aaron McNeal and I am a web developer with a Bachelor’s Degree from Purdue University and certification from Parkland College.

I currently reside in Champaign-Urbana with my wife, daughter, and Siberian husky. My hobbies include movies, video gaming and monthly podcasting for the Horrible Night website.

Web development and support engineering are my primary focus. My three top skills are:

  • PHP
  • JavaScript
  • SQL

Other skills that I’ve used in my career are as follows:

  • WordPress
  • Drupal
  • HTML5
  • CSS3
  • Twig
  • jQuery
  • Git
  • NodeJS
  • React.js
  • GruntJS
  • PostgreSQL
  • Vagrant
  • Adobe Creative Suite
  • Linux and Windows administration

I’ve been playing video games since the 90s. Starting with the Nintendo Entertainment System, or NES, I’ve followed the gaming system all the way to the present day where I continue to mostly play on PC, PS4, and mobile systems. I’ve been a member of the Horrible Night gaming website since 2011, where I made my start writing reviews, weekly articles, and podcasting with fellow gamers and some of my closest friends.

I’m currently into Hearthstone and often spend free time keeping up with the latest RPGs, action, and strategy titles. I keep up with gaming podcasts and get a lot of my gaming news from sites like Polygon, Kotaku, Giant Bomb, and Waypoint.

Some of my favorite games of all time are:

  • Spelunky
  • Jet Set Radio
  • Super Mario World 2: Yoshi’s Island
  • Fallout: New Vegas
  • The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
